Swallow ECO Wooden Garden Villa

Coming back Feb. 2015 from exploring Loas and Myanmar I arrive to the new project underway. Wayan and his team from Java erect a traditional Javanese Gladak home next to Swallow Guesthouse. This wooden Gladak has eight centre posts holding up the tall central roof with side extensions to hold the lower level roof line in place. The term Joglo is the common name of an ancient Javanese home.

Again I play architect and Wayan supervises the process. Workers, who have been with us from the beginning, lend a hand and supplies are brought in off the road access by the village ladies including the wonderful flooring tiles that each look like a painting. We hope to create an artistic home using recycled brick and wood hand made into furniture.

Half of the home will be inside with a master bedroom and small child’s room or office attached. A huge bathroom will house the toilet, shower and terrazzo bathtub next to the statue.

On open common area will house the kitchen, lounge area and a day bed for visiting guests. All is accessible to the lap pool in the garden next to the mango, banana and avocado trees.
